چکیده

A series of polystyrene-based cationic copolymers (PSCC) were synthesized by copolymerization of styrene and cationic comonomer vinylbenzyl trimethylammonium chloride (VBTMAC). These copolymers can be used as internal paper sizing agents in a broad pH range. The effect of charge density on the PSCC colloid properties was investigated. It was found that at room temperature the PSCC could change from waterinsoluble to colloidally dispersible and finally to fully water-soluble as the charge density was increased. Based on the understanding of its colloid behavior, PSCCs were applied as paper internal sizing agents. The results showed that the hydrophobicity of handsheets could be significantly improved by PSCC and the sizing performance was the function of copolymer addition, charge density, particle size, drying temperature, as well as pH conditions. The present study indicated some potential advantages of PSCC copolymers as internal sizes. PSCC can be self-retained on the fiber surface, no hydrolysis occurs during the storage and application, and no sizing reversion occurs.

Synthesis and Properties of Novel Cationic, Temperature-Sensitive Block-Copolymers

Facile, one-step synthesis of self-assembling, cationic block copolymers of poly(2-N-(dimethylaminoethyl) methacrylate) (pDMAEMA) and PEO-PPO-PEO (Pluronic®) is developed. The copolymers are obtained via free-radical polymerization of DMAEMA initiated by Pluronic-radicals generated by cerium (IV). The copolymers possess surface activity, are polycationic at pH<7.1, and self-assemble into micell...

Micelles of imidazolium-functionalized polystyrene diblock copolymers investigated with neutron and light scattering.

We synthesize a series of block copolymers comprising a polystyrene (PS) block and an imidazolium-functionalized PS (IL) block and characterize their assembly properties. We use small-angle neutron scattering and dynamic light scattering to determine the micelle size and shape in dilute solutions and to assess the micelle interactions in concentrated solutions. By studying a series of copolymer...

Controlling the number of dendrimers in dendrimicelle nanoconjugates from 1 to more than 100.

Herein, we present a facile strategy to controllably build up dendrimicelles by self-assembly of anionic PAMAM dendrimers with cationic-neutral diblock copolymers. We present a systematic study incorporating a full decade (0-9) of dendrimer generations, tracing the gradual variation from aggregates (G0 and G1) to self-assembled micelles (G2-G8), and an unidendrimer micelle structure (G9) by dif...

Effect of Polymer Architecture of Amphiphilic Poly(2-oxazoline) Copolymers on the Aggregation and Aggregate Structure

The micelle formation of five poly(2-oxazoline) diblock, triblock and gradient copolymers in water was investigated using fluorescence correlation spectroscopy. The polymers were synthesized by consecutive or simultaneous living cationic polymerization of 2-methyl2-oxazoline for the hydrophilic and 2-nonyl-2oxazoline for the hydrophobic polymer segments. Fractions of the polymers were fluoresce...

Fabrication of Completely Polymer-Based Solar Cells with p- and n-Type Semiconducting Block Copolymers with Electrically Inert Polystyrene

It is widely recognized that fullerene derivatives show several advantages as n-type materials in photovoltaic applications. However, conventional [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) exhibits weak absorption in the visible region, and poor morphological stability, due to the facile aggregation. For further improvement of the device performance and durability, utilization of n-type...
